DFWFreeNet is a community built, owned and operated community wireless network in the Dallas / Ft. Worth (North Texas) area. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers and sponsoring businesses, we're committed to building a free wireless network throughout our community. Our mission is providing a free wireless network to help bridge the Digital Divide, breaking down the economic barriers to Internet access for all. Free Internet Access? Free WiFi? What's the catch? We're asking the community -- individuals and businesses -- to help us extend and expand this free network. You can help. - Even if you don't have broadband, you may be able to help extend the range of the network with a wireless repeater or gateway in your front window, balcony, or rooftop. (Check to see if you're within range of "dfwfreenet" first.)
- If you have a broadband Internet connection, you can share your bandwidth.
- If you are a business or property owner (cafe, bakery, restaurant, bar, laundromat, hotel, apartment complex, conference center, etc.), DFWFreeNet volunteers will install a wireless network for cost of the broadband Internet connection. You’ll attract new customers that stay longer while saving hundreds in installation, equipment, supplies and labor costs compared to having a commercial company install a wireless network.
- If you already provide free wireless Internet or already have a wireless network set up, you are welcome to join DFWFreeNet by replacing your existing access point(s) with DFWFreeNet wireless gateways and repeaters. By combining our efforts, you’ll become part of a larger wireless initiative, gain additional exposure and be helping to build a unified and robust wireless network across the Dallas / Ft. Worth area.
